The BC Wine Appreciation Society has a dinner with Clos du Soleil.  Wines you will enjoy plus ticket details are below. Enjoy!

Those of you who were on  our 2012 bus tour will remember the delicious wine dinner we had with Clos du Soleil at the Watermark – and now owner Spencer Massie and winemaker Ann Sperling are coming all the way from the Similkameen to visit us!

In 2005, Spencer and a group of friends fell in love with the Similkameen, and decided to found a winery. In 2006, they planted their vineyards with all Bordeaux varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Spencer and Ann Sperling were high school classmates, and by 2009, Ann was on board as winemaker.

The name Clos du Soleil refers to rocks, sun, and soil, from the mountain that forms a tall natural stone wall at the back of the vineyard, the cobbled terroir, and the long days of sun which pour in on the Similkameen Bench, one of BC’s most unique and promising microclimates. Clos du Soleil is highly committed to bio-dynamic farming practices, and to the French ideals of producing quality wines from their unique place.

2014 Upcoming Events:

Don’t miss our AGM on Monday June 16! This year we’re at a new venue, the Vancouver Film School on 88 East Pender. Come on out, bring a bottle of wine, enjoy the food the Society is providing, socialize with your fellow “winos”, and do a bit of Society business, too. We promise – the business part is over quickly!

The annual barbecue of the Vancouver American Wine Society is Sunday August 10. Once more, VAWS has invited BCWAS members to attend their annual barbecue at VAWS member rates. Always a fun time! This year, it’s in the gorgeous Kerrisdale backyard belonging to Larry Burr. Join us for food, wine, and bocce, and don’t forget your swimsuit.

Our 9th Annual Bus Tour is September 6/7, the weekend after Labour Day. We’ll be in Kelowna and Lake Country this year. The Saturday lunch will be at Gray Monk, our Saturday dinner will be at CedarCreek, and as always, Joy Road will be cooking us a wonderful Sunday lunch, this year at Tantalus Winery.

Questions? Contact us at events@bcwas.com.

Please make sure you have a safe way home – take transit, call a cab, or ask a friend to be a designated driver. We will have transit tickets on hand for those who take BC Transit home.

Please note that we are unable to provide refunds. If you cannot attend the event, please let us know with as much advance notice as possible and we’ll try to re-sell your ticket, but we cannot guarantee this.

About Blue Mountain Vineyard and Cellars

Located in BC’s South Okanagan, Blue Mountain Vineyard and Cellars is distinctive among Canadian wineries in that all its wines are produced exclusively from grapes grown on the estate’s vineyards.  Ian Mavety purchased the land which is now Blue Mountain Vineyard in 1971.  Current owners Ian, Jane, Matt, and Christie Mavety continue to work to realize the potential of the region, utilizing sustainable farming methods and winemaking practices.  Blue Mountain produces complex, age-worthy varietal wines that are consistent in style while allowing the expression of both the terroir and the individual growing season.
