Alsace is a wonderful region in northeastern France.  The confluence of German and French wine and cuisine.  Beautiful gingerbread-style houses.  I’ve been there once and would love to go again.  But in case you are like me, longing to visit, or have yet to visit, you can experience the cuisine of Alsace at Bistro Pastis till the end of June.  Here is their special menu for me and you.

Although there are no wine pairings shown, classic Alsatian wines are made from Pinot Noir, Sylvaner, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Muscat d’Alsace, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer.

January Vegan Cooking Classes at Wild Rice in New Westminster

Wild Rice logoOK, the holiday season is over and all our binging.  It’s time to treat our bodies better in 2013.  One way is to learn how to make some healthy and delicious vegetarian Chinese dishes at Wild Rice restaurant in New Westminster.  It is easy to get to Wild Rice.  Hop on the Expo line skytrain and jump off at New Westminster station.  Here is the announcement that showed up in my email box.  Enjoy!


Executive Chef Todd Bright is featuring Vegan Chinese in his cooking classes this month at the New Westminster location. Value priced at only $30, the fee includes the class (both demonstration and hands-on) followed by a four-course dinner. It does not include tax, gratuity or beverages.

This Sunday (October 7th), Le Parisien will be presenting a special 3-course prix fixe Thanksgiving dinner for only $35. Traditionalists will be happy to see classic dinde (turkey) on the menu along with Tarte au Citrouille (pumpkin pie). If turkey isn’t your thing, then there’s the very Parisian option of Crab Stuffed Sole and Lemon Soufflé Crepe. How do you choose? Either way you’ll gobble up this tasty menu created with Chef Tobias Grignon’s French flair.

Celebrate Julia Child’s Centenary with Bistro Pastis

Do you like French food?  Have you ever heard of Julia ChildBistro Pastis in Kitsilano is marking the 100th anniversary of Julia Child’s birth with a special menu.  See below and Bon Apetit!

August 15th marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Julia Child. To honour this remarkable ambassador of the French table, Bistro Pastis will be celebrating the centennial all summer with a series of special three-course prix fixe menus valued-priced at only $39.  Executive Chef Tobias Grignon has combed the pages of Mastering the Art of French Cooking to create dishes inspired by its recipes. Each dish is annotated on the menu with the page number on which it appears. Menus will run for two weeks starting with the first one from July 3rd to 15th.
