BCWAS 8th Generation Vineyard Event April 21

Come out to the BCWAS 8th Generation Vineyard wine tasting on Thursday April 21 and experience more BC wine.  There are so many BC wineries around now.  I am in particular VERY interested to try their Riesling and Pinot Noir, as I did a BC Riesling Review last year, and this year I am now starting my BC Pinot Noir Review. Here is the tasting announcement from the BCWAS.

~~~
Join us for a fun tasting with Stefanie Schales of 8th Generation Vineyard!
When Stefanie and Bernd Schales decided to call their winery “8th Generation” they really meant it. Their families have been making wine in Germany since 1783 – that’s a lot of history!
Stefanie studied architecture while Bernd followed the family tradition by becoming a winemaker. He studied at the State Academy for Viticulture & Oenologie of Weinsberg in Germany, and went on to make wine in Germany, New Zealand and South Africa.
After immigrating to Canada from Germany, Stefanie and Bernd purchased their first vineyard, in OK Falls, in 2003. In 2007, they bought the winery in Summerland. Our BCWAS September bus tour has been there twice, and each time the stop was one of our highlights!
8th Generation makes Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Meunier Rosé, Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Syrah as well as two frizzante-style bubblies and their flagship Riesling.
Stefanie and Bernd with the 9th generation.                  Photo credit www.spiegel.de.
Stefanie is bringing 12 wines with her, so we’ll get to taste almost everything!
·         2014 Confidence frizzante
·         2014 Chardonnay
·         2015 Riesling Classic
·         2014 Riesling (Best Riesling in Canada at the All-Canadian Wine Championship)
Clos du Soleil Dinner with BCWAS: Get Your TIckets
Clos du Soleil logo
The BC Wine Appreciation Society has a dinner with Clos du Soleil.  Wines you will enjoy plus ticket details are below. Enjoy!
~~~

Those of you who were on  our 2012 bus tour will remember the delicious wine dinner we had with Clos du Soleil at the Watermark – and now owner Spencer Massie and winemaker Ann Sperling are coming all the way from the Similkameen to visit us!

In 2005, Spencer and a group of friends fell in love with the Similkameen, and decided to found a winery. In 2006, they planted their vineyards with all Bordeaux varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Spencer and Ann Sperling were high school classmates, and by 2009, Ann was on board as winemaker.

The name Clos du Soleil refers to rocks, sun, and soil, from the mountain that forms a tall natural stone wall at the back of the vineyard, the cobbled terroir, and the long days of sun which pour in on the Similkameen Bench, one of BC’s most unique and promising microclimates. Clos du Soleil is highly committed to bio-dynamic farming practices, and to the French ideals of producing quality wines from their unique place.

BCWAS – Perseus Wine Tasting Tickets on Sale

Have you tried the wines from BC’s Perseus winery?  Top quality wine that I’ve had the pleasure of sampling several times.  Here is your chance to taste their wines at the BC Wine Appreciation Society tasting.  The BCWAS announcement is below.  Enjoy!

~~~
Perseus Winery Tempus Syrah 2009Perseus Winery was named after the constellation of Perseus, which can be seen in the clear northern sky in the months after harvest.
”The goal of Perseus Winery is to produce approachable wines of character and distinction from some of British Columbia’s finest vineyards.”  Perseus believes in terroir – that sense of place which includes the soil type, the microclimate, the slope, and the actual location of the vineyard. Their winemaking philosophy is to handle the wine as little as possible, letting the grapes do the talking! Recent awards include a Gold, a Silver, and two Bronzes at the WineAlign National Awards of Canada – these wines are stars!
John Pullen, Director of Sales and Marketing for Perseus, will be coming out to talk to us, and he’s bringing a whole constellation of eleven of his wines – including two mini-verticals! John has almost a decade of BC wine experience, most recently at Church and State. He’s very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about BC wines, so he’ll fit right in with all of us!
The Wine Flight
The wines you will enjoy are:
  • 2011 Sauvignon Blanc – crisp and refreshing
  • 2011 Pinot Gris – lots of peachy characters
  • 2012 Viognier – look for hints of tropical fruits
  • 2011 Chardonnay – even you “ABC” types will like this one
  • 2011 Cabernet Franc – spicy and full-bodied
  • 2011 Malbec – rich and dark
  • 2010 and 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon – big and bold
  • 2009, 2010 and 2011 Invictus – complex spicy/fruity Bordeaux blend
This will be our first tasting at our new venue, the Vancouver Masonic Centre. We look forward to seeing your familiar faces in our new location!
