BCWAS 8th Generation Vineyard Event April 21

Come out to the BCWAS 8th Generation Vineyard wine tasting on Thursday April 21 and experience more BC wine.  There are so many BC wineries around now.  I am in particular VERY interested to try their Riesling and Pinot Noir, as I did a BC Riesling Review last year, and this year I am now starting my BC Pinot Noir Review. Here is the tasting announcement from the BCWAS.

~~~
Join us for a fun tasting with Stefanie Schales of 8th Generation Vineyard!
            8GV-Family2008 with8 (3)
        Photo credit 8th Generation.
When Stefanie and Bernd Schales decided to call their winery “8th Generation” they really meant it. Their families have been making wine in Germany since 1783 – that’s a lot of history!
Stefanie studied architecture while Bernd followed the family tradition by becoming a winemaker. He studied at the State Academy for Viticulture & Oenologie of Weinsberg in Germany, and went on to make wine in Germany, New Zealand and South Africa.
After immigrating to Canada from Germany, Stefanie and Bernd purchased their first vineyard, in OK Falls, in 2003. In 2007, they bought the winery in Summerland. Our BCWAS September bus tour has been there twice, and each time the stop was one of our highlights!
8th Generation makes Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Meunier Rosé, Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Syrah as well as two frizzante-style bubblies and their flagship Riesling.
Stefanie and Bernd with the 9th generation.                  Photo credit www.spiegel.de.
Stefanie is bringing 12 wines with her, so we’ll get to taste almost everything!
Wines being poured include:
·         2015 Integrity frizzante
·         2014 Confidence frizzante
·         2014 Chardonnay
·         2015 Riesling Classic
·         2014 Riesling (Best Riesling in Canada at the All-Canadian Wine Championship)
·         2013 Riesling Selection
·         2015 Riesling Selection tank sample
·         2015 Pinot Meunier Rosé
·         2012 Pinot Noir
·         2014 Cabernet/Merlot
·         2013 Syrah
·         2015 RedOne
And because we know how much you love your wine and cheese, we’re also going to have a few platters from Les Amis du Fromage.
Wines of BC logoMeeting a wine maker and talking to them about their wines is always exciting.  Here is a chance for you to talk with some prominent BC wine makers to celebrate BC Day on August 2.  Below is the press release from the BC Wine Institute.
BRITISH COLUMBIA -This BC Day long weekend, the British Columbia Wine Institute is throwing a big party in honour of beautiful British Columbia and the wonderful wines that are grown and produced in the province.
 Consumers are invited join some of BC’s top winemakers at Vancouver’s 39th & Cambie BC Liquor Store anytime from 3-6 PM on Saturday, August 2, to sample some of the 12 BC VQA wines that will be available to taste. The wines will be paired with tasty tidbits of local foods as prepared by Vancouver-based Forage restaurant.
These six acclaimed BC winemakers will also be signing bottles of BC VQA wines, giving fans a chance to ‘meet the makers’ of their favourite BC VQA wines, and the opportunity to discover new BC wines.
Holly Conway with the BEAT radio will be live on-site, broadcasting festive tunes for this FREE consumer event:
MEET YOUR MAKER WITH BC VQA WINES
Saturday, August 2 at 3-6 PM
Cambie Kitchen
The festivities continue well beyond the tasting event, with 30 scheduled BC VQA wine tastings taking place in BC Liquor Stores around the province throughout the month of August. Qualified tasting staff will lead consumers through tutored tasting flights of three wines at a time, showcasing 12 in total, which demonstrate the bountiful diversity of wines produced in our beautiful province. (Click here for the schedule of tastings and locations.)
August is the ideal month to shop for BC VQA wines in BC Liquor Stores as the stores celebrate all 100% grown and made-in-BC products. An exciting addition to the month long promotion is the newly-implemented ‘Insider Picks’ which will see a growing selection of BC VQA wines within BC Liquor Stores year-round.
British Columbians have so much to celebrate: From the sea to the mountains, from our wildlife to our culture, from our natural resources to our growing industries. What better way to celebrate our province’s abundance of riches than with delicious BC VQA wines!
December Featured Winery is Award-Winning Meyer Family Vineyards
Jak Meyer and Janice Stevens purchase a small 1.62 hectare vineyard on the Naramata bench in 2006, and 3.9 hectares in Okanagan Falls two years later.  They hired the best winemaker and viticulturists and focused on small lot single vineyard wines made in the traditional of Burgundy style.  Today Meyer Family Vineyards produces less than 3000 cases from mature 14 year old vines, making some of the finest wines in the Okanagan (MFV was one of the top 10 vineyards in Canada at the 2013 National Wine Awards).
Wines Included in December Shipment:
The three wines include in the December shipment are a fantastic representation of Okanagan Valley wines at great prices:
2012 Okanagan Valley Chardonnay – Only 555 cases are produced, a blend from two family-owned vineyards, McLean Creek Road in Okanagan Falls and Old Main Rd in Naramata. Anthony Gismondi recently gave it 89 points and described this as a “lively, fresh, green apple, citrus, skinny chardonnay whose strength is nuance and simplicity.”
2011 Okanagan Valley Pinot Noir – A bronze award at the National Wine Awards of Canada; 89 points from Anthony Grimondi; and 88 points from Beppi Crosariol, who described this wine as “medium-bodied, tight and chewy, with soft raspberry fruit, zippy spice and a whisper of beetroot.  It is a great choice for grilled salmon or poultry.”
2012 Gewürztraminer – Made in the traditional Alsatian style to enjoy as an aperitif or to accompany a wide range of cuisine, especially Thai, Mexican and spicy dishes.  Aromas of Lychee or Turkish Delight, citrus and spice.
Let’s celebrate Canadian winemakers – subscribe to the Hidden Gems Wine Subscription here.
