Vancouver, BC—The Arts Club’s ChefmeetsBCGrape fundraising series returns this September with three entertaining evenings that will feature fine BC wines and delectable cuisine pairings as well as incredible access to world-class winemakers and highly-trained chefs.

These events will be social, lively, and informative, and offer the perfect opportunity to showcase both the flourishing wine industry and innovative fine dining establishments in the province. All proceeds will benefit the Arts Club’s community engagement initiatives and youth-focused education programs.

The series opens with the ChefmeetsBCGrape Signature Tasting, which will feature an extensive selection of BC’s award-winning wines perfectly paired with dishes created by top BC chefs. The events continue with two more intimate evenings: the Uncorked Kitchen Party, a new event dedicated to the prolific Oliver and Osoyoos wine region followed by the decadent Mission Hill Family Estate Dinner. This final event will showcase reserve labels from the flagship Okanagan winery, accompanied by a menu of classic French-inspired cuisine.

More than 90 BC wineries will be pouring in excess of 350 wines. In addition, chefs from 15 restaurants will put out their finest culinary creations in the hopes of winning the Best Plate Pairing and Best Overall Dish awards. A silent auction will offer travel and entertainment packages as well as wine lots.

Each dish will be expertly paired with exclusive wines, and 10 proprietors will be on-hand to explain more about the winemaking process. A pop-up tasting room will be stocked with labels from over 30 wineries.

Do you like cooking, or watching people cook, then eat?  I like both and was happy to see that YEW seafood + bar and La Quercia will be offering cooking classes in association with the Arts Club Theatre Company.  In addition, if you are a wine person like me, Mission Hill Family Estate will be providing the wine.  Eat and drink local!  Here is the announcement from the Arts Club Theatre Company. Vancouver, B.C.—The Arts Club Theatre Company’s duo of July Celebrity Chef Cooking Classes will showcase sumptuous summer fare and fine B.C. wine. Top chefs from YEW seafood + bar and La Quercia move from the kitchen to the patio to demonstrate how to prepare refined menus with distinct themes. The first evening is dedicated to the art of the barbecue, and the second to delectable Northern Italian cuisine. The popular fundraising classes are held in private luxury homes in Vancouver and West Vancouver.

Sean Murray of YEW seafood + bar takes on grill master duties on Tuesday, July 23, to throw an elegant backyard party, featuring four courses served family style. The class will focus on professional tips and tricks for firing up the barbecue as well as interactive demonstrations on salad and dessert preparations. Murray has spent his career creating high-end dishes with an accent on local seafood.

On Wednesday, July 31Lucais Syme of La Quercia will create a rustic, regional Italian menu with a contemporary edge. His Kitsilano trattoria has built a reputation for updating traditional dishes and embracing the farm-to-table movement—recent accolades include Best Casual Dining Award fromVancouver Magazine and Best Italian Golden Plate Award from the Georgia Straight.

The class will begin with an olive oil tasting by Kelowna-based The Olive Oil Merchant, which specializes in importing superior quality olive oil from artisan producers in Italy.

Wine pairings for each dinner are provided by Mission Hill Family Estate, producing award-winning wines in the heart of British Columbia’s pristine Okanagan Valley, one of the world’s most exciting wine regions.

Both classes start at 6 PM and tickets are $125 each (with $50 tax receipt).

ABOUT SEAN MURRAY

Since graduating from culinary school, Sean Murray has honed his skills in the kitchens of luxury hotels. He trained for five years under Ernst Dorfler at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Vancouver. Murray joined the Four Seasons Hotel group in 2002, spending six years in various international hotels and resorts, with his most recent position as executive sous chef at the Four Seasons Costa Rica. Murray returned to Vancouver in 2011 as restaurant chef under Ned Bell at YEW seafood + bar, where he brings his knowledge, skill, and enthusiasm to the restaurant’s modern seafood concept.

Co-owners and co-chefs Lucais Syme and Adam Pegg have created an exceptional brand in Vancouver, starting with their flagship restaurant La Quercia, renowned for its repertoire of simple, deliciously executed Northern Italian dishes. Vancouver, B.C.—The Arts Club Theatre Company is pleased to announce its new lineup of Celebrity Chef Cooking Classes. From October 16 to November 7, four classes will be hosted in exclusive private homes. This fundraising series is dedicated to celebrating Vancouver’s top culinary talent and features first-class fare from the fall harvest paired with fine wines.
 
These classes offer an exceptional opportunity to indulge in four-course meals and meet like-minded foodies in a festive and relaxed atmosphere. Watch, learn, and lend a hand as top local chefs prepare delicious dinners and offer insider tips and demonstrations on innovative ways to enhance dishes at home. No experience is required—classes are structured to suit varied tastes and levels of expertise from amateur enthusiast to restaurant aficionado.

The fall lineup illustrates the abundant and contrasting dining choices available in Vancouver. Sean Murray of YEW restaurant + bar in the Four Seasons Hotel brings elegant five-star delights; his colleague Bruno Feldeisen spotlights pastry arts with the creation of four decadent desserts in preparation for the holiday season. For world flavours, Todd Bright, from Wild Rice, creates contemporary Chinese cuisine, and Herve Martin, from The French Table, brings the taste of classic European bistro dining.
 
Sommelier-selected wines provided by the Mark Anthony Group explore the rich diversity of the Okanagan Valley region. The featured wineries are Ganton & Larsen Prospect Winery and Rigamarole Wines. Their flagship brand, the award-winning Mission Hill Family Estate will be the signature wine for the series.
 
Classes are $125 (with a $50 tax receipt), with the exception of the desserts-only class on November 1, which is $85 (with a $30 tax receipt).
