The Ball Park Foot Long Wiener dressed with Mustard, Relish, Ketchup – Cracker Jack garnish. Paired with Moët Chandon Rosé PC: Emrys Horton EPH Photograpy EPH4796

In a continuation of its very successful Hot Dogs, Cool Bubbles event this past June, TWB –The Wine Bar is once again morphing into The Wiener Bar at 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 31 with Haut Dogs, Size Matters – Big House Champagnes and Foot-Long Hot Dogs.

Provence/TWB Wine Director Joshua Carlson came up with the idea as a tribute to London’s famed Bubbledogs. “We received such great response to our June event, we decided to do it again,” says Carlson. “This time, instead of Grower Champagnes, I’ve enlisted David Hall of Charton Hobbs and Moët Hennesy who will be guest pouring champagnes from their portfolio.”

Carlson, along with Provence/TWB Executive Chef Jean-Francis Quaglia and Chef de Cuisine Sheldon Maloff, have created two very haut pairings available for only $30:

The Coney Island Foot Long Hot Dog
Dressed with Chili, Cheese, Onions – Tater Tot garnish
Veuve Clicquot Rosé

 and
The Ball Park Foot Long Wiener
Dressed with Mustard, Relish, Ketchup – Cracker Jack garnish
Moët Chandon RoséAs with the previous event this is first-come, first-served with the Haut Dog pairings available only while supplies last.

In addition to the two rosé champagnes featured in the above pairings, Hall will also be pouring an assortment of champagnes which may include some from  Krug, Ruinart, and Dom Perignon at the ‘dealer’s choice’ price of only $25/glass and TWB will be offering a 25% discount on all bubbles that night.

Join The Wiener Bar (aka TWB-The Wine Bar) for a very special sparkling Saturday starting at 5 p.m. on August 31 for Haut Dogs, Size Matters. Cheers to ‘no champagne, no gain!’

Believe it or not, cooking was something our Executive Chef Alex was always drawn to; more by an unseeable force than a guidance counselor or career aptitude test (though he did take one and it said he’d be an excellent basket weaver). In fact, get him chatting and Alex can pinpoint inspirational experiences, moments and people that drew him to where he is now.

Osteria Savio Volpe And Pepino’s Spaghetti House Scoop Up Big Wins At 2019 Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards

In case you have not to have any Italian food from Osteria Savio Volpe or Pepino’s Spaghetti House, some new Restaurant awards from Vancouver Magazine may entice you.  Here is the press release about their awards.

~~~
Vancouver, B.C. (May 1, 2019):
Osteria Savio Volpe and Pepino’s Spaghetti House accepted coveted honours at this year’s Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards, held on Monday, April 29. Cozy fox den Savio Volpe earned the gold award for Best Italian, while their red-sauce American cousin Pepino’s was awarded gold for Best New Design as well as runner up for Best New Restaurant.
Now in its 30th year, the Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards is the city’s biggest and most prestigious culinary awards gala with 38 categories shining a spotlight on Vancouver’s best restaurants, chefs, bartenders and sommeliers. This year, 15 judges comprised of notable food critics and experts explore holes-in-the-wall, fancy five-stars and all eateries in between, singling out those that offer outstanding fare, above-and-beyond customer service and an atmosphere that lingers with diners long after leaving.
“Savio Volpe’s combination of atmosphere, affordability, and a dialed-in but not doctrinaire take on regional Italian has redefined Italian food in Vancouver,” said the judges. Indeed, the restaurant offers a welcoming haven for residents and visitors to the trendy Fraserhood neighbourhood with its growing popularity lending a lively buzz.
“We are honoured to accept these awards, and want to thank Vancouver Magazine for recognizing the care and attention shown by our team to ensure the very best experience for our guests,” says Paul Grunberg, partner of Savio Volpe and Pepino’s. “Our team’s tireless work and passion has contributed tremendously to our success, and we are grateful to customers old and new who choose to spend their evenings with us.”
Celebrating their fourth anniversary this October, Savio Volpe’s traditional yet simple and fresh menu reads like an ode to old-world Italy. Adding to their list of accolades, the restaurant made the 2019 list of Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants for the third consecutive year.
Pepino’s earned Vancouver Magazine’s accolade for Best New Design, with recognition for preserving the venue’s longstanding heritage. “It takes a deft hand to make a space feel like it’s always been there without turning to Disneyish clichés,” they said. “And so, gold for Best New Design goes to Ste. Marie for its work converting the 62-year-old institution that was Nick’s Spaghetti House into Pepino’s.”
Notably, the restaurant was also a runner up for the coveted Best New Restaurant category. “Taking Silver is the reimagined red-sauce joint Pepino’s, where the team behind Savio Volpe took the legacy (and location) of Nick’s Spaghetti House and managed to transform it into a spot that seems fresh and nostalgic in equal measure,” says the award judges.
Spearheaded by Craig Stanghetta, partner of Pepino’s and Savio Volpe, and his talented team at Ste. Marie, the design of Pepino’s captures a perfect balance between authenticity and purposeful reminiscences of a former era. The team meticulously salvaged original fixtures and detailing, creating a welcoming home-away-from-home.
“Our overarching goal was to preserve the comfort and familiarity shown by Nick’s, which left a lasting mark on so many guests over the years,” says Stanghetta. “We are very proud of the end result, and also for earning this coveted award ahead of our one-year anniversary in June.”
Savio Volpe and Pepino’s are co-owned by Mark Perrier, Craig Stanghetta, and Paul Grunberg; the trio are also proprietors of Commercial Drive’s newest Italian alimentari  and grocer, Caffè La Tana, which recently opened in October 2018.
About Savio Volpe
Opened in Vancouver’s Fraserhood neighbourhood in 2015, Osteria Savio Volpe is a restaurant styled after the classic osteria – featuring rustic fare in the Italian tradition of freshness and regionality, using ingredients gathered from the nearby lakes, oceans, farms and fields. Everything is prepared in the simplest, most flavourful way, with pasta handmade fresh every day – fatto a mano in casa – and meat, poultry and fish kissed by smoke over the wood-fired grill and rotisserie. The 75-seat osteria features a long list of friendly Italian wines and old-world coffee to inspire conversation and good cheer among friends, family and strangers alike. Above all else, Savio Volpe celebrates liveliness, warmth and hospitality. Saviovolpe.com
About Pepino’s Spaghetti House
Situated in the midst of Vancouver’s Little Italy, Pepino’s is the brainchild and second joint venture of Osteria Savio Volpe’s acclaimed restaurateurs Paul Grunberg, Craig Stanghetta and Mark Perrier. Pepino’s is a cozy Commercial Drive eatery serving up hearty dishes inspired by fresh flavours, traditions and simple cooking techniques of Southern Italy. The 62-seat restaurant, formerly occupied for over 62-years by the iconic Nick’s Spaghetti House, is the “red sauce American cousin” to Savio Volpe, serving up tomato-based pasta dishes with savoury spices and stick-to-your-ribs meats. Pepino’s aspires to be a neighbourhood favourite, a safe space where people can take a load off, breathe in the aromas of fresh cooking, and look forward to a leisurely meal with family and friends. Pepinos.ca
