8 Ways Rocky Mountain Flatbread Is Serving Families, Front Line Workers And Community During The Pandemic

I received this notification by Rocky Mountain Flatbread on how they are offering to help families and front line workers, and our community in general during the COVID-19 crisis.

Rocky Mountain Flatbread – like many independent restaurants in BC – is working hard to stay afloat in this unprecedented global pandemic, and owners Dominic and Suzanne Fielden are facing the challenge head-on with the community in mind. In recent weeks, the Fieldens quickly changed their two Vancouver family restaurants to the required take out and delivery-only model but were forced to temporarily close their new Surrey franchise location. The resulting loss of staff and business has been very difficult for everyone involved but this husband and wife team are not giving up. They jumped into action with a creative brainstorming process, asking themselves, “How can we best serve the Vancouver community during this pandemic?”

“There are challenging times ahead for small independent restaurants, indeed all of us Vancouverites, but it is a little bit more bearable if you feel you can make a small positive difference in a time of crisis,” explains Suzanne.

Keeping community in mind, these are the 8 ways that Rocky Mountain Flatbread will support families, front line workers and hospitality staff through the pandemic:
Rocky Mountain Flatbread has always followed strict Vancouver Coastal Health and Safety Policies, and are following all of the new policies recommended by Public Health in BC. Staff follow the COVID-19 motto:  Stay healthy, Stay safe, Wash your hands, Always social distance, and Disinfect ALL surfaces.

Rocky’s full menu of pizzas, pastas and salads are available for takeout and delivery. Here’s how:
  • Effect immediately, customers can make and pay for orders by phone with contactless curbside or patio pick up from 4 – 8 pm daily at our Kitsilano and Main Street restaurants. Find us in Kitsilano at 1876 W 1st Street or on Main Street at 4186 Main Street.
  • As of April 2, Rocky Mountain Flatbread is launching an online pre-order and payment store on their website RockyMountainFlatbread.ca to allow online ordering!
  • Contactless delivery options are available through Door Dash, Skip the Dishes and Uber Eats.
To say thank you to emergency service front line workers for their tireless efforts during the pandemic, Rocky Mountain Flatbread is offering 25% off all regular priced take out menu items. Because it’s difficult for many front line workers to pick up, Dominic and Suzanne are personally offering to deliver to front line teams and individuals for orders over $100.

Rocky is also partnering with the crowdfunding project Feed the Front Line Canada. The mission is simple: support our local healthcare and hospital heroes who are working in wartime-like conditions and support our local restaurants who are really hurting during this period. So far over $28,000 has been raised, and every Sunday Rocky Mountain Flatbread will be handcrafting 80+ pizzas to feed front line emergency workers.

This is a tough time for families who are stuck staying at home… Newly created for Vancouver families is the $60 Family Meal for take out!
The Family Meal includes: To Start:  two Small Soups or Salad | Mains: two regular-sized traditional or artisan pizzas | Kids Meal:  two kids mozza pizzas | Dessert: four house-made double chocolate brownies. Cost: $60 (includes $20 discount). And you just might have leftovers for the next day!

Families have always loved to visit Rocky Mountain Flatbread restaurants to create their own pizzas – in fact so did the grown ups! Welcome to the new Family Pizza Making Kit so everyone can still make their own pizza at home!  Included is the dough, tomato sauce, mozzarella, toppings and easy to follow instructions. Cost: $13 per kid | $18 per adult.

Everyday the Rocky team is busy handcrafting pizzas to sell in the frozen section of stores such as Safeway, Choices, Nesters, Whole Foods and other independent grocers. The 10-inch handcrafted frozen pizzas are offered at affordable prices for pick up at both Vancouver locations. Cost: $7.50 – 8 each.

Rocky Mountain Flatbread has joined forces with the folks at Say Mercy, creating $5 to $10 Staff Meals for people in the hospitality industry who are out of work and for anyone in need. Rocky shall soon be selling very affordable chillis, curries, pizzas and soups at both Vancouver locations.  An additional $2 is automatically added to bills to be donated to the food bank – which so many people are relying on now. Order a Staff Meal on the Say Mercy website by 2 pm; pickup will be at our Main Street or Kitsilano locations. Vancouverites can also donate a staff meal to a person in need. How cool is that?

Breaking Bread is an online hub encouraging Vancouverites to support local independent restaurants who are offering take out and delivery options during these unprecedented times. There are many ways to help including: Stay safe, Stay healthy, Wash your hands, Support local!

“Our hearts absolutely go out to everyone who has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. We appreciate all the support we have received for our business, and we know at the end of the day we’re going to get through this crisis together,” says Suzanne.
